Build Day: May 5th

Wednesday, May 5th
5-9:30 PM

We're hoping to have two teams working to get the fun box complete and begin construction on the large wedge ramp that will be placed between the 2 quarter pipes on the side of the park that butts against the tennis courts. IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN WORKING (Not hanging out and staring at people do all the work) please come down!

Fun Box Built

We got the majority of the fun box complete this evening. We'll be adding a 4 stair set on the backside and a hubba ledge. Slow but steady, we're making progress! Parks & Rec. had the fence top safety capping installed for us this week. Looks great and serves a very practical purpose. Thanks Ruth!

2010 Rough Layout

With generous donations from Ruth Plummer at East Hampton Parks & Rec. and Pedal Power Bicycle Shop we're making some good progress at the park. We've been doing some planning and have developed a rough draft of what the park will likely look like when completed in the next month or so. The ramps will be painted maroon and gold, the Pedal Power colors, to help protect them from the elements and give them some character.

NOTE: Some elements may change and this isn't drawn to scale!

Work Horses

Thanks to the people that came out and helped build down at the park today. A HUGE THANKS to Steve Morse who spent 9 hours of his day off down at the park working his tail off! We were able to get two 5' quarter pipes with decks and safety railings built and we started framing out the 8' x 6' deck of the fun box. We're making progress and the park is looking good!

Next work day is Thursday, April 29th from 5-9 PM.
We'll be painting the ramps so the park will be CLOSED ALL DAY THURSDAY FOR DRYING! Spread the word!

Building Today!

Steve M. will be down at the park around noon today to start construction on some new ramps and several other will be showing up after school and work. We'll be building till dark tonight. Come on down and lend a helping hand!

Heavy Traffic

The skatepark is already receiving heavy traffic and it's only been up for a few weeks with just a few ramps in place. Here's a few our our volunteers getting rad at the park...

Did Work!

Thanks to everyone that came out tonight and busted their butt helping us get the park cleaned up, the grind box re-layered, and the street spine built. We're only 3 working days in and the park is looking better already! We'll be building a few nights next week...the lights are on till 10!

No Ramp Building Saturday

Rainy and temps in the 40's Saturday, we're not building! Stay tuned for next weeks build date.

Ramp Building Update

It appears we may be getting rain on Friday and Saturday so the build day for this weekend is likely postponed. To make up for lost time we'll be meeting Thursday the 15th from 5-dark and one day next week to get ramps built. If Saturday ends up drying out I'm sure a few of us will show up at the park at some point.

Moving forward we'd like the stress the point that "build days" are to get ramps built and tidy up the park, they aren't ramp sessions. We appreciate people coming out to show support for the park, but it's too dangerous having riders/skaters weaving in and out of people using drills, saws, extension cords, etc.

No skating or riding will be permitted while ramp building is taking place at the park.

Thanks for understanding.

Safety First

Thanks to Ruth Plummer and East Hampton Parks & Rec. the fences at the skatepark will be capped with a safety product similar to the one pictured below. This is going to be a huge plus for people skating/riding the mini ramp which has the fence bordering it on 2 sides. Nobody likes to be impaled!

Ramp Moving

The skatepark committee and some volunteers met on Monday to get the ramps out of storage and down to the skatepark site. Tristan Bush of East Hampton was kind enough to donate his mini ramp to the park, which took some serious man power and a huge trailer to move. Thanks to everyone that came out and helped us muscle the ramps apart and down to the park. The ramps need some TLC, but the park should be looking pretty good in the next few weeks!

2010 Belltown Skatpark A Go!

The 2010 Belltown Skatepark will gradually begin to be set-up down at Sears Park for the 2nd year in a row. A huge thanks to Ruth Plummer and the folks at the East Hampton Parks & Rec. for allowing us to use the space again and for making a generous donation of wood and materials to help us build the park bigger and better this year.
